4- Freedom of speech

Should there be limits on Freedom of Speech?

Hate speech. Hate speech is often shown verbally, or in writing such as letters or through the internet.

Hate speech can be shown through bullying. Not only verbal bullying but also cyberbullying, and other forms too. Things like bullying can get so out of hand because of how much freedom of speech one gets, and can often lead victims to suicide. People becoming suicidal through one's words and actions make many people feel guilty which then affects more people than only the victim of possible suicide

Freedom of speech can lead people to suicide, it is a topic that people should be limited. According to https://verdict.justia.com/2017/07/05/encouraging-suicide-crime people can get assassinated over, just because people were expressing what they personally believed -which cannot happen at all. And also when somebody hates others, they are expressing what they think directly, it makes the victim feel really depressed, and can lead the victim to suicide. I believe that there should be limits.

Please take it seriously. Funny jokes can help people, but just for a brief moment. While you are figuring out the solution, there's a way that we can get rid of it happening at all. Isn't it better to prevent it from happening? Are you going to waste another person's life just making the victim 'joking'? That's not going to work.

Claim:

There should be limits on freedom of speech not only in the United States, but globally, as limits can help people in a democratic society, it can reserve people rights, it can reduce bullying which can lead to people becoming suicidal, and it can help to prevent false advertising.

False advertising should not be happening, therefore there should be limits on freedom of speech. False advertising makes the company lucrative, and you shouldn’t lie on TV screen. Their commercial purpose sometimes leads people, especially children, hard to make distinctions. Government is supposed to do something for it, that’s basically main reason why are we paying TAX. This article (http://www.businessinsider.com/false-advertising-scandals-2017-2) is talking about the examples of false advertising, such as claiming it’s healthy for your body, but actually not. Freedom of speech should be limited, because it can cause people to no-belief in the country and etc.

I understand the part you don't like the part where the company lies to the consumer and make the product consumed a lot which leads us to pay tax. But think about it, what will happen if the company have limits to their freedom of speech that will make the consumers not able to buy products, which will make less tax for the country to take care of their national defense money and other things

Freedom of speech should not have limits. Freedom of speech allows a person to let others know what is on their mind. For example: according to http://visionlaunch.com/pros-and-cons-of-freedom-of-speech/# If you are not so happy about a decision that the government is making, you can speak what is on your mind and the people would take this into consideration.

Democratic society

Although freedom of speech in a democratic society allows for creativity in sharing opinions and ideas, sometimes too many opinions can cause chaos. If too many people disagree with each other's ideas and opinions, it could lead to different forms of conflict and also bullying which is another topic that was discussed. As clear in any government, they would like to avoid any conflicts within their own nation, meaning they should be able to make decisions with the people's help, but without causing any trouble.

Yes, all of these opinions can cause conflict and riots, etc, but without these opinions where would the government be? If there were no freedom of speech and the government would not do the right things for their people. For example: according to https://betterlesson.com/lesson/resource/2895472/the-pros-and-cons-of-freedom-of-speech if the governments having an election, the people would not be able to vote, only the government and the new president could be the one that majority of the people do not want because they didn't have the right to vote.

Freedom of expression helps us grow as individuals. When you express your thoughts and listen to the ideas of others, you learn and become more mature. Hearing and discussing different points of view help you make thoughtful choices about what you think is right. You mature as a person when you make choices for yourself rather than just accepting what others tell you. Greater freedoms that come from such a shift can represent new dimensions to old challenges though. Many of the suppressed voices uphold democratic values and human rights; others revive ancient hatreds (https://yaleglobal.yale.edu/content/dark-side-free-speech)

Yes but sometimes it helps such as obscenity or copyrights.

I understand, but people have three instinctive needs from birth. There is sleeping, libido, and appetite, and people have the human rights to resolve those three needs. But trying to stop being obscene now means to refrain from sexual desire.

Freedom of expression is important to all people who live in a democracy because it supports our democracy. Our democratic system of government depends on the people’s’ ability to make good decisions. To make good decisions you need to be able to get enough information to make up your mind. You need to hear and discuss different ideas and opinions. Discussing various points of view will help you in many ways. You can make reasonable choices about supporting leaders. You also will know which laws deserve your support. (http://mdk12.msde.maryland.gov/instruction/curriculum/social studies/units/gr5firstamendment/AdditionalFiles/FirstAmendmentDay3Resource4.pdf)

I believe that there should be limits to the freedom of speech. You said you have to have enough information to make up your mind to make the quality decision. Whereas, I believe that it can lead people negatively. What if someone tries to bully somebody else just because they are just expressing their personal opinions on the others? It's going to be severe and harsh, not liberal.

I understand that you are saying that if anyone can think that they want to bully and hate someone they can bully some one which will make it not

liberal, however what if someone who has limits on freedom of speech which wants to make them dispute their guilt to the police can't because they're freedom of speech is limited? As well as if you get bullied you may have the right to think smart and act and speak freely to the bully and protect themselves.

Freedom of expression advances knowledge. It is easier for you to make new discoveries and gain new knowledge when you can suggest ideas and exchange information freely. Even if some ideas do not work, they provide a way of testing the truth of other ideas.
